When we first got married, all we wanted was a puppy. I had always had Australian Cattle dogs growing up, so when we finally picked out our new family member, we started brainstorming what to name her. Since the breed originated in Australia, we got the map out and pretty much searched for names.
When I saw the name Darby for a town, I knew that had to be her name, for so many reasons. First, because I loved the sound of it. Also, my husband and I are both Irish, and we remember seeing the movie Darby O'Gill and the Little People when we were young. The deciding factor, though, was that when my husband heard what name I wanted, he said, "I can't believe it -- I was stationed at Camp Darby when I was in the Army!"
So Darby it was ... we loved her for 15 years -- she was our first child. She crossed over the Rainbow Bridge this August and we will never forget her.
